The islands sit off the coast of West Africa, and the mentality seems to be the same – nothing is a problem, the locals are very welcoming and genuinely pleased to see you. The most striking images are the beaches, Cape Verde enjoys a large number of long white sandy beaches. Its not hard to find your own private stretch as they go on for miles!
Cape Verde Islands offer the perfect paradise with white sandy beaches and clear blue waters
Although there are nine islands within the Cape Verde, so far only two have become popular with British tourists. The island of Sal was the first to enjoy direct flights from the UK followed quickly by the island of Boa Vista.
Sal has a stunning lunar-like landscape. The resort of Santa Maria has colonial roots and the colourful buildings are strongly influenced by the Portuguese. The beach stretches for 7km and is relatively unspoilt and backed by sand dunes. Boa Vista is the latest addition to the UK tour companies and the beaches are just as beautiful as neighbouring Sal.
Eating out in whilst on holiday in the Cape Verde Islands is something to savour. With an exotic mix of African Brazilian and Portuguese recipes you’re in for a treat! Seafood is especially good with king prawns, lobsters, octopus and fish all featured on the local menus. Shopping is pretty low key on Boa Vista although Sal does have local craft shops and supermarkets for you to spend your holiday money.
