Goa

Goa is a tropical paradise situated on India’s south west coast. It is blessed with over 50 miles of coastline that offer beautiful sandy beaches, loads of water sports and glourious sunshine, it is easy to see why holidays in Goa are so popular and have something to offer for everyone.

On arrival at the airport you will be introduced to the friendly locals who will be keen to give a warm welcome.

Goa offers some of the best beaches in India

Goa Holidays have been increasing in popularity in recent years due to the low cost of living and fantastic low prices. Hotels in Goa range from 1* guesthouses to 5* luxury hotels. Many people return year after year. Holidays in Goa are most popular between November and April when the charter airlines offer direct flights which take around 10 hours. There are flights year round available with scheduled carriers usually via Mumbai or Bangalore but these usually involve a change of aircraft.

Back to Resort Guide for Goa

Holidays in Goa for many are their first taste of the sub-continent, but many are suprised at how different it is to what they imagined. The Portuguese invaded Goa in 1510 and ruled there until the 1960’s. Portuguese settlers influenced the local area with the introduction of Christianity as well as building churches, schools and roads. They introduced law and order and a good standard of living for the locals.

Food and drink will play a big part of your holiday in Goa. Seafood options are always popular with tiger prawns and lobsters usually cooked in tandori ovens, then as you would expect in India there are many different varities of curries to try. The local red wine is always a hit as well as local beers and imported drinks, all are available at a fraction of the price back in the UK.

The most popular Goa holidays with holidaymakers are in the north. Resorts such as the lively Baga, Calangute and Candolim have been the main areas to visit over the years and offer numerous shops, stalls, bars, restaurants and discos. The southern resorts in Goa are developing at a slower pace and are much more relaxing and have quieter beaches than the northern resorts.

For those who like to do more than lie on the beach, a holiday in Goa has lots of sites to explore with archeogical dig sites such as the 14th century ruins of Hampi, capital to one of the greatest Hindu Empire’s in India. There is also lush jungle with high valleys leading into rivers and a wildlife sanctury too. Whatever you want from your Goa holiday, you won’t have to look too far to find it.

British Passport Holders will require a visa to visit India, this must be arranged before travel. Please contact the Indian High Commission for further details. All other nationalities should also check their visa requirements.
