Goa - A Tropical Paradise
A small state in the west region of India, surrounded by the Arabian Sea, Goa has a rich history derived from its Portuguese colony past. Since the 1960s Goa has been a popular destination for sun seekers who go to experience the unique culture, laid-back people and unspoilt beaches.
Holidays in Goa appeal to those who enjoy relaxation and good beaches, the state is well known for its sparkling waters and white sands that are almost unbroken along the 70km coastline. North Goa is where you will find the busiest and most developed resorts and nightlife in contrast to the south which has a more relaxed vibe. The most popular beaches to visit throughout the year are the ones of the lively resort areas of Baga and Calangute, and at the quieter resort of Candolim. However, Goa holidays are not just associated with sea and sand; there are plenty of things to do and see whilst there. As the state is so small it actually has the feel of a large town and is therefore easy to navigate and travel around to discover all that Goa has to offer.
The influence of the former Portuguese and Catholic colonial rule can be seen throughout Goa with plenty or architecture to visit and cathedrals to explore. It is also worth arranging a trip to the capital city of Panaji and largest town Vasca da Gama whilst in Goa to see the sights and mix with the friendly and relaxed Goan people. Many tourists also chose to visit the spice plantations, flea markets, gentle rivers and white-water waterfalls as part of their trip to this unique Indian state, not to mention Bhagwan Mahavir Sanctuary, one of Asia's most famous wildlife sanctuaries.
The history of Goa is typified in the east-meets-west cuisine with influences from India and Portugal fused to create their own delicious Goan cuisine. There are shacks on most beaches that serve delightful dishes and a great many restaurants throughout the city, town and village resorts where the unique and aromatic Goan food can be enjoyed aplenty.
