Where to go in October

For many people October is a great time of year to go on holiday. The weather in the UK is usually changing (for the worst!) and many would be holidaymakers are looking to get some more sunshine before the winter sets in. So where can you be guaranteed sunshine for a holiday in October? Check out our top five tips for holidays in October, maybe you will find some inspiration.

1. Sharm El Sheikh - now a firm favourite with us Brits. Holidays in Sharm are popular all year round thanks to the warm climate. Temeratures range from a minimum 22c to maximum 30c - very nice! There is plenty to do in Sharm, diving or snorkelling in the Red Sea, lots of good quality hotels offer fantastic facilities including waterparks, there are excursions to Mount Sinai or desert safaris or you can just chill and enjoy the wonderful weather. Naama Bay comes alive at night with lots of neon lit pubs and clubs as well as a good range of restaurants.

2. Tenerife - A year round climate keeps Tenerife near the top of the list when it comes to holiday destinations. With beautiful scenery from Mount Tiede to craggy coves, Tenerife welcomes back many visitors year after year. Playa de las Americas is the most popular resort for a holiday in Tenerife and has a huge range of accommodation ranging from 1* self catering to 5* luxury boutique hotels. There is a huge range of shops, bars and restaurants to enjoy and excellent nightlife. Neighbouring resorts of Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje have a wide range of accommodation too. The water parks and theme parks will be a good choice for family holidays in Tenerife, and the northern resort of Puerto de la Cruz is very cosmopolitan too.

3. Cyprus - A great destination for exploring, perfect for car hire as the drive on same side of the road! Cyprus holidays have always been popular thanks to great beaches, lots of history, excelent accommodation standards, a wonderful climate and the friendly local people. The weather in Cyprus is usually very good with average maximum temperatures a very warm 27c, meaning shorts and tea shirt weather! All the major resorts remain open throughout October and all have a good range of restaurants that serve the catch of the day and a good range of shops and bars too. For the best beaches head to Ayia Napa, Protaras or Coral Bay.

4. Cuba - Holidays in Cuba are very popular thanks to the lower costs compared to other Caribbean islands. With stunning white sand beaches Cuba is a perfect destination for a holiday in October. Most hotels are situated directly on the beach and offer fantastic views. Hotels range from 3* basic to 5* luxury all inclusive hotels. Whilst in Cuba you will no doubt discover Salsa dancing and really get into the Caribbean feel. Cuba holidays are highly recommended and attract repeat guests year after year.

5. The Gambia - With year round average temperatures of 30c, a holiday in Gambia always a good choice! Beautiful sandy beaches, really friendly people and the low cost of living make for a great choice for a tropical holiday destination. Many hotels sit directly on the beach and accommodation ranges from 1* no frills to 5* spa resorts. October is usually a quieter month so bargains at the local markets, bars and restaurants are waiting to be snapped up!
