Set just metres from the beach, Hotel Florida has a setting thats hard to beat.

Its the location that scores top marks here. Youll find it right in the heart of Fuengirola, overlooking the harbour. The beach is a short hop from the doorstep. And there are several golf courses in the area, too. The city of Malaga is about a 30-minute drive away, or you can catch the train from the centre of town.

Setting aside, the pool area is impressive, too. The rectangular swimming pool is quite small but more than adequate for the number of guests, and

• as its sheltered by the hotel buildings
• the terrace is a real sun trap. Theres a poolside bar on hand, too, where snacks are served right through the day.

As for the property itself, its simply-styled, glass-trimmed and 12 floors high. Willy Wonka-style glass elevators offer up amazing sea views. And the lobby and restaurants are spotlit spaces dressed with marble floors and potted plants. The bedrooms, meanwhile, are modern with pale green walls, chunky wood furniture and floral linens. In-room extras include satellite TVs and small fridges, not to mention a slate and marble bathroom.

Last but not least, is the spa

• which is said to be one of the best in Andalucia. Access to the spa circuit comes as standard so you can really make the most of the sauna, steam bath, the relax pool with its in-water loungers, and the hydrotherapy pool where massages come courtesy of fountains, jets and waterfalls. That said, signature treatments such as the chocolate body wrap are well worth paying a little extra for.
